What is the City of Somerville's interview and hiring process like?

Does the City of Somerville sponsor visas?
The City of Somerville does not sponsor visas at this time.

What is the City of Somerville's response to COVID-19?
To better protect the health and safety of staff and the public, as a condition of employment, all City of Somerville employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of November 1, 2021. Exemptions and/or reasonable accommodations are not guaranteed and will be reviewed by the City of Somerville Human Resources Department on a case-by-case basis. Does the City of Somerville offer remote or hybrid work? 
The City of Somerville is working on developing a formal hybrid/remote workplace policy. Currently, the Human Resources department allows Department Heads to make decisions regarding hybrid work depending on department needs. Generally most employees have transitioned to working fully in-person or work a hybrid schedule.

What professional development opportunities does the City of Somerville offer employees?
The City provides routine training on employment-related policies and best practices. Department Heads are encouraged to work with staff to assess and plan for a variety of job-related programs to support continued learning, growth, and professional engagement of employees.

The Human Resources Department further supports learning opportunities and access when departmental budgetary constraints may arise. Additionally, the Human Resources Department administers the Non-Union Education Reimbursement Program.

Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement may be provided opportunities and/or incentives for advancing education and professional growth as outlined in the appropriate agreement.
